It is exciting to report that, in just three years, planning and building applications for solar energy have increased 253 percent from 56 applications in 2010 to 142 in 2013.

Even more exciting is that all of these applications have been driven by the property owner.

strawsonbeachIt is the middle of summer: we may have got past Cup Match and Beachfest, but there is a lot of summer to go. Go ahead, kick back and have fun! Global warming? Great – the weather is gorgeous, sunshine is guaranteed! ... But seriously, here are some ways to enjoy summer while still keeping your conscience clear when it comes to our environment.

A new study of Bermuda's offshore wind has concluded that it is a viable source of renewable energy for Bermuda.

The report states "The results from our wind energy model show that offshore wind energy is an economically viable option. Our calculated LCOE of $0.261/kWh is significantly lower than the price of electricity paid by consumers. A demonstration of our spatial analysis model shows that, for our chosen set parameters, it is possible to site a 100 MW wind farm on the Bermuda platform with minimal risk to marine habitat and fisheries."

SargassoSeaCommissionLogoToday [6-Aug-2014] the Government of Bermuda announced the names of the first Sargasso Sea Commission which will "exercise a stewardship role for the Sargasso Sea and keep its health, productivity and resilience under continual review."

Dr. Tammy Trott, the Senior Marine Resources Officer for the Bermuda Government Department of Environmental Protection, represents Bermuda.
