The US Consulate will tomorrow [22 April] screen two environmental documentaries as part of the annual Earth Day celebrations.
The first features a park in Cairo, one of the most populated cities in the world, which was created out of a 500-year-old dump and the second focuses on green energy.
The documentary features the FedEx distribution centre in California, which uses clean solar energy to provide 80 percent of its energy.

Residents need to change their approach to energy to avoid falling victim to fuel poverty as prices continue to rocket, Environment Minister Marc Bean said last night.
Mr Bean noted more and more people are feeling the knock-on effect of rising global oil prices as he launched a debate on Government’s Energy White Paper in the House of Assembly.

The 1000 sq ft solar panel system installed on the roof of the new Acute Care Wing of the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital is now the island’s largest solar panel system, a spokesperson said today.
“The state of the art solar plant installed by Bermuda Engineering Co. Ltd [BE Solar] for Paget Health Services comprises nearly 1000 square feet of panels to capture the energy of the sun and use it to heat water,” BHB added.

Savings for Seniors helps senior citizens to reduce their electricity bills. The project is a partnership between Greenrock and Age Concern and was made possible by a generous grant in 2013 from Catlin End-to-End Bermuda.

A new project jointly provided by Age Concern and Greenrock has seen seniors saving money on their energy bills.
Savings for Seniors has been beneficial for seniors as well as the environment, according to project manager and Greenrock volunteer Mike Kisala.
